gonna go to babylon and get me some whiskey now

July 20, 2010

So, went to go see Regina Spektor, one of my all time faves, at the Sage tonight. Thought i might dress up. A bit. Slash be casual.

I really really hate when you want to take a picture, but for SOME REASON, the lens makes what you can see on the camera further away than what you can actually see with your eyes. IT IS SO ANNOYING. All my pictures of her playing are horrible little blurs when I wasn’t even that far away. I hate when you can’t make out someone’s face from where you’re sitting though.

Oh hi Sage Hall 2.

Tell you what else I hate. Trains. And buses. And all transport, at the minute anyway. Even my own car, it turns me into a road-raging beast. But yeah, WHY THE HELL is the last train back to Durham from Newcastle at the measly time of 10:43pm? And why did it feel the need to leave EARLY. AAAAARGHGRHRGRH. And WHY do all the buses that are supposed to go back to Durham suddenly decide to “terminate at Stanley” after 10pm? OH MY GOD. And we got harrassed by a charv/homeless drug addict woman, who was literally foaming at the mouth, and Catherine gave her like a quid so she would go away and we saw her practically beating up some man later. AAARRGH.

Yeah so, £37 taxi back. MINT. Oh man sorry I don’t mean to sound like such a radge. I am actually going to complain to the transport companies though, sick of dis shit.

Oh by the way Regina et al were awesome, think I forgot to mention that. It was mostly new stuff she played, but a few old(er) classics like Samson, Us, That Time and The Flowers also. None of my ABSOLUTE faves. But they are all reaaallly old and obscure.

Hope to cya more like that next time. ♥

I must say, I didn’t like it as much as Telephone or Paparazzi, the other epically long ones. It was still as shocking as ever though.

Although I’m not usually one for “beauty” (as in the term as it’s used for sections in magazines), I really like the makeup in this video, really sophisticated. However, I am not much a fan of the hair, but maybe it’s just cause I’m craving flowing locks atm. I think she looks quite a lot like a bleach blonde Kathy off Friends, especially in the bits with the hospital beds. ARGH THE INTERNET IS NOT AS GOOD AS IT MAKES OUT IF IT DOESN’T HAVE ANY DECENT PICTURES OF KATHY OFF FRIENDS.

Also, loving the gun bra in the later scenes. Like a modern-day Tank Girl.

Now it’s been swell, but the swelling’s gone down.

Back in Durham for the mo. It’s weird, I’ve never actually missed Leeds this much before.. summer’s gonna be weird.

Been on a major music downloading spree. Artists include Jack Beats, Kelis, LCD Soundsystem, Foals, Gorillaz, Flight of the Conchords, Lou Reed, Crystal Castles and Ray Charles.

Haven’t managed to listen to and rate all of them yet, but here are a few of my faves:

Kelis – Acapella

Gorillaz – Some Kind of Nature (feat. Lou Reed)

Ray Charles – Hit the Road, Jack

Jack Beats – Mini-mix for Annie Mac

Back to Leeds tomorrow anyway.

PATTERNS AND CULTURE IS OVERR. Yessss, and hopefully I scraped enough marks to get 40%. Usually I don’t have this attitude to work but cba. All that’s left now is Introduction to Textiles B which should be a breeze cause I did A-Level Textiles. Went to town yesterday after my feedback (don’t wanna brag but hello 2.1) to get things for my Eevee costume. Oho yes, photo’s will be provided. It’s a Pokemon-themed Otley Run. Also got a few purchases from American Apparel, of course.

Just the shorts, but the socks are from there too, top’s Urban Outfitters, usually has braces attached.

Also got a skirt which will no doubt be featured soon. I really want some hi-tops also, any suggestions?

Finally finished my jumper which I’ve been working on since the last week of the easter holidays:

My face was monstrous.

Speaking of knitting, I chose Knitwear as my pathway (out of Menswear, Womenswear and Knitwear) for uni for the next two years, eek. No going back now. I think there’s literally about 4 people doing it including me. Aww.

Also, going to see REGINA SPEKTOR in July at the Sage in Gateshead! So excited, I love her so much.

These are currently two of my favourite songs of hers, I like the old stuff better than the new, as per:

Currently re-reading the Uglies/Pretties/Specials/Extras quartet by Scott Westerfeld. I love them.

Its something I would love if it was turned into a film, cause I have no imagination and would like to see how they portrayed the “pretties” when in the first book, they find some old magazines and see models in them and are shocked at like why they are there, so thin and how they are only “almost natural pretties”. Hopefully it wouldn’t be some CGI monstrosity.

(*edit) Just went to “quick edit” a post and it said “allow pings”. No idea what they are, but in the books, pretties “ping” each other to contact each other, coincidence, I think not. Ha.

Yeah, so recommended. I know I haven’t synopsisized (is that a word?) at all but I don’t want to give the game away. Google them or something.

Also, music-wise, loving Ellie Goulding, however especially dubstep remixes of her songs by Jakwob. We actually saw him at Wax:On in Leeds, wish I’d loved him as much at the time, ohwell.

Ellie Goulding – Under the sheets (Jakwob remix)

Ellie Goulding – Starry Eyed (Jakwob remix)

Anyway, off to cruise around pointlessly, laugh hysterically and waste money with Megan.

YESSS. Love this song, video is amazing, although obviously will be shortened, boo.

LOVE – Beyoncé’s jacket at around 6:30, v military/americana.

Also, love the americana theme near the end around 7:50, hate to do this but “v S/S 10”. Ahah.

Also, the leopard print concoction that Gaga is wearing near the end is the outfit she wore for “Poker Face” at the concert.

Whole thing is v Quentin Tarantino – diner scene, (*edit) and “Honey B” (Honey Bunny) much like Pulp Fiction, accents, pussy wagon much like Kill Bill.

And now I get why at the concert she was like “I’m just remembering when I was in prison. With Beyoncé” then launched into “Telephone”. LOVE IT.

It was amazing. Like, I knew it was going to be, but I was still blown away. No words can describe really.

Basically, the experience was majorly enhanced by the fact I managed to blag my way into the “golden circle” when I was meant to be just standing. Big thanks to Ellis et al. And actually the niceness of the event people. Just confirms the fact that the further north you go, the nicer people are ;).

Thought more people would be dressed crazy tbh. Took pictures of ones who were though..

There were actually two of these guys. This is a shitty sneaky picture though.

The woman on the left actually thought I was insane for wanting to take a picture of them.

“IS THAT A THONG?!”

LOVE what these two were wearing. And their lightning bolts were made out of lace :).

Picture says it all really.

Merchandiseee, thought I really should add a Lady Gaga tee to my collection, even if they were £20.

Really wanted this “I’m A Free Bitch” one, but it was only in a large :/.

But got dis goy.

Cheeky golden circle.

Woah.

THE OPENING SEQUENCE. She had little bits like this throughout the show, during the “intervals” where she got changed/changed the stage.

She sang most of the first song – “Dance in the Dark”, behind this screen, just standing in one pose for ages then suddenly moving. Much suspense. She then lost the shoulders as you can see on the bottom (this image is from those like, screens which do close-ups, so quality isn’t as good, sorry).

Outfitsss..

As you can probably guess, this was “Lovegame”, with the old disco stick. It actually had a torch in the end and during one of the parts where she talked to the audience (amazing) she shone it around at people. There were many screams on my part when it came in our direction.

Fierce dance moves in a studded leather bikini and knee high boots, to “Speechless” on piano in a studded leather bikini and knee high boots. She actually dedicated “Speechless” to “her favourite fan – Emily” and got everyone to sing along. Which was nice, but also jealous-making.

Then there was a more like, theatrical bit, where she was talking to the audience and her entourage of dancers and they were looking for “The Monster Ball”. This happened quite a bit throughout, so it was more like a production than just a show, v cool. Anyway, this huge lampshade came down and hid them while she was transformed into, er, the image on the bottom. The dress was like moving and swaying like some sort of sea creature.

After another interval, she came out in this mad hairy suit, which then was transformed into just a body for “Teeth”.

Leopard print catsuit for “Poker Face” and one of her classic, erm, oversized, crystallized designs, and a GIANT angler fish for “Paparazzi”.

Final song was “Bad Romance”, really good ending, in one of those classic metal guys that both her and Beyoncé love.

Final bows, lots of teeth-baring.

As you can probably tell, these aren’t all my pictures from the night, or all the songs she played, so if you want to look at the whole set of pictures you can see them here and here – there were too many photos for just one facebook album, ha.

Final picture, bit bad quality but I was trying to capture the immense amount of people walking to the train station from the arena. And I left like STRAIGHT after she finished..

Basically, all I can say is absolute love. X

K, this whole thing clearly shows my obsession with black and gold, especially as I decided to wear ALL my jewellery, ha.

Dunno what’s wrong with my face, sorry.

Got these cute guys from H&M.

That’s trying to illustrate exactly how much glitter I have on my face. It doesn’t do it justice I’m afraid. Oh well.
